Interviews

Interviews are good news – your application has worked! Now review your application and build on the research you have started.

Find out what the employer expects during their interview process and prepare and practice answers to typical questions. See the links below for further advice, resources and sample questions.

  • It is normal to feel nervous. Practice and preparation are key to know that you can sell yourself, your experience, and your motivations in the best possible way. We can support you in an Interview Coaching appointment where you can practice your answers in a safe space and receive valuable feedback.
  • Ensure you can clearly articulate your unique motivations for the opportunity you are being interviewed for, for that all important “Why have you applied?” question. What stands out to you about the role/organisation and why is this? Be clear on the reasons behind your enthusiasm. Your answer should be unique to you and the opportunity.
  • Select powerful and relevant examples from all areas of your experience and prepare answers to competency-based questions using the technique. It is good practice to have an example ready of every skill required in the job description. If the job description is quite vague, consider using the most relevant to help you prepare.
  • Prepare a few questions to ask the interviewers at the end of the interview, as this shows you are interested and engaged. Ask questions that further demonstrate your interest and enthusiasm, and perhaps acknowledge further skills/attributes or demonstrate your prior research into the organisation.
