In a literal sense, studying history opened my eyes to varying cultural sensitivities and differences globally and I can now use this as I work in different countries around the world.

I also use the skills I learnt in my degree, for example communication, empathy, presentation skills, the ability to analyse sources and situations.

Post 16 Education: AS Level German (poorly!); A Level History, Geography & Politics; I attempted AS Maths as I felt it was a ‘strong subject’ and was encouraged to do so, but I hated it and struggled. So dropped it!

Higher Education: BA (Hons) History and Geography

For me, History is EVERYTHING. It’s impacted every aspect of everything that happens in the world and we can learn so much from it.

Why did Charlotte choose to study history?

History and geography at schools were the lessons I looked forward to - what I enjoyed studying. I was particularly interested in doing a joint honours degree as it kept my options open.

Charlotte’s experience as a student

History at university is so much more diverse than at school, there’s options to learn about so many more aspects than I had ever thought about, but also to go into more depth about the parts I already had interests in. It also applies itself more into the world than I had considered beforehand.

Studying at university was more flexible, the opportunities to study the areas that interested me, write my own essay titles etc, it meant everyone’s degree was different.
